A show for needlepoint

I’ve got a show coming up at Neutral Ground, an artist-run centre in Regina. Yay! It opens April 4 – May 9.

Rita McKeough & Nicole Burisch
ps: Relatedly: if you’re in Calgary this week, you can meet Cindy Baker at the Mountain Standard Time Performative Art Festival. She’ll also be attending the Performance Creation Canada Conference. I wish I could go!

Ed & Chelsey

This photo was from the Canada Council’s website, his official portrait from when he won the GG award a few years ago.

Why didn’t I get a better photo of this? It actually looks really good, in bright oranges and blue-greys.

Carbon nanotubes lead to new advances in blackness. I find this really unnerving.
My grant cheque came today. I love you, Saskatchewan Arts Board!
A fun fact: I check my keyword stats nearly every day.
A friendly, related message: I’ll post a photo of it here as soon as I get my camera back.

The first was from the Saskatchewan Arts Board: the Independent Artists Grant I wrote in September was successful! The second was from the Saskatchewan Foundation for the Arts; apparently the SAB jury recommended my project for [...]

I found out on Friday that I got a new (paid) job: A one-year term position as volunteer coordinator at AIDS Sask and SHCS. I start tomorrow morning: wow! I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit nervous, but the people at both places are great. I’m also totally psyched and relieved to [...]

Joanne Bristol. I think it’s from a photo from Venice, in a boat. This may be my new favourite; the green yarn is puffy and gives it a curly, fluffy look
Aside: I love photos from Venice — eventually I want to do a series of small portraits in sets: artists who have represented [...]

Anthony

I finished Anthony last night (or the front, it’s not framed yet). I scanned it like Allyson suggested, but I’m still trying to figure out how to get the best colour out of my scanner (quickly). The light grey is less purple than this, and the navy is lighter.

This was for Filling Personal Space, a show in Saskatoon organized by Lindsey Sharman and Maxine Proctor. They asked a bunch of people to make things on 5×7 canvases, and then hung them in a burr-filled lot on Avenue C x 21st St. It was pretty cute.
